The purpose of this project is to create an understanding of how network optimization works and how Internet data is distributed- whether it be citywide, statewide, nationwide, or worldwide!
Most real-world problems are not deterministic. They involve too many variable parameters - and the possible number of outcomes is equally high. The question is how to find the best combination which gives you the best outcome. The answer is by modeling and formulating these problems using Integer Linear Programming (ILP).
The idea is to plan and optimize an optical network, given a set of demands (source, destination, and datarate) using the optimization tool Gurobi. The result will give the best paths for each demand, and take you one step closer to understanding the Internet.
Basic level of programming and a problem-solving mindset.
